Josh Clemons Looks To
Stun ARCA Field At Salem
Salem, Indiana September 10, 2004 - - Clemons Racing, a new
team to the ARCA RE/MAX Series in 2004 announced today that they
have filed an entry for the upcoming Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA
Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts set for this Saturday,
September 18th, 2004 at Salem Speedway.
Josh Clemons, the
driver is no stranger to Salem Speedway. He has competed in
several events at the legendary ½ mile oval in several different
racing sanctions including the United Speed Alliance Racing (USAR),
and NASCAR AutoZone Elite Divisions.
Now, Clemons is ready
to face his next challenge as his Indiana based team will shift
their focus from the ARCA RE/MAX Series Superspeedway events to a
brutal short track brawl.
"I’m very
pumped about this weekend," said Clemons, the driver of car
41. "It’s been a while since our team has last
competed in an ARCA event, but we’re ready to get back to action
and feel we have something to prove on Saturday night."
Indeed, the 28-year
old rookie is feeling the pressure. Why? Salem
Speedway is considered Josh’s hometown track. Residing
just thirty minutes from Salem, Clemons will have fans in the
stands rooting him on as he looks to stun the ARCA regulars and
capture his first victory in just his third career start.
Earlier this season
the driver of the No. 41 United States of Mind Ford Taurus
competed at Nashville Superspeedway and Kentucky Speedway.
At Nashville, the
rookie showed his potential by qualifying in the top ten
(seventh), and motoring to an impressive ninth. At Kentucky, the
team looked to accelerate past those results. A superb
qualifying effort of fifth left the team with high hopes, but
unfortunately Clemons developed engine fatigue knocking the former
late model competitor out of the race and a disappointing 28th
place finish.
The team attempted to
qualify for the second Kentucky Speedway event, but mother nature
halted the team’s effort canceling qualifying, sending the
Clemons Racing team out and headed home.
With the engine now
rebuilt, the team hopes their mechanical woes will settle down,
allowing Josh to show more maturity, and talent in what is
expected to be one of the most competitive short tracks event this
season.
"I love Salem
Speedway," continued the New Albany, Indiana native.
"Salem is a very fast track, and while everything happens
quickly, I strongly believe if we can qualify up front and stay up
their for a majority of the event, we’ll have something in the
end."
In addition to United
States of Mind, Sky Spy, Cybertek Engineering, and Tech Star
Design and Manufacturing, have joined the No. 41 machine as
associate sponsors for the weekend.
"I cannot thank
my associate sponsors enough, they are very important to me, and
play a huge part in our program," explained Clemons, who aims
at a full assault in the NASCAR Busch Series next season.
Despite no prior
experience at Salem Speedway in the ARCA RE/MAX Series, the former
Go-Kart champion has no fears. "In short track racing
it’s usually about survival. While it’s a benefit to me
to have some seat time around the track, every driver needs a
little luck. We hope to be lucky and fast on Saturday night
and give my hometown fans a reason to celebrate."
Following Salem,
Clemons Racing is expected to compete in the ARCA RE/MAX Series
season finale at Talladega Superspeedway in the Food World 300.
The Eddie Gilstrap
Motors ARCA Fall Classic by Advance Auto Parts is the 21st of 22
events on the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule. This weekend will
mark the second time the teams have competed at Salem Speedway
this season. First round practice is on tap Saturday afternoon
with qualifying also on the agenda that afternoon, with the race
set to take the green flag later that night. The Speed Channel
will broadcast the race with same-day coverage starting at 10:30
PM EST.
