With
Nashville Test
Lebanon,
Tennessee 3/12/05 - - Despite
no primary sponsor for the upcoming PFG Lester 150 from Nashville
Superspeedway, ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Josh Clemons and his
Clemons Racing team will once again fight the cost of racing and
participate in Tuesday’s “open test” session at Nashville
Superspeedway with hopes of proving once again that a talented
driver is behind the wheel.
Clemons,
a native of Indiana made his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut last April
from Nashville Superspeedway with smashing results. After qualifying an impressive seventh, Josh raced hard and
clean all night competing with ARCA’s best before collecting a
solid ninth place finish in his debut.
“Nashville
is a special place for me,” said the driver of the No. 41 Clemons
Racing Ford Taurus, Josh Clemons. “No one knew what to expect from our team last year, but I
knew. We went out
practiced really well, qualified exceptionally and finished the
race. If that’s not impressive, I’m not sure what is”
Clemons,
a former veteran of the NASCAR All-Pro Series participated in three
events last year.
Following
his run at Nashville, the team headed to Kentucky Speedway looking
to show the team wasn’t a fluke. Once again, the team turned some heads after Josh put his
then United States of Mind Ford Taurus fifth on the starting grid.
After running with the leaders for a major portion of the
first half of the event, the team would be plagued with engine
failure leaving a sour 28th place finish on the team’s
mind.
Returning
at the end of the 2004 season, the team decided to switch gears and
enter the fall Salem short track event in their own backyard. Once gain the team showed strength.
After practicing decent, Clemons took matters into his own
hand and put his Ford Taurus tenth on the starting grid. During the race, Clemons was the “man-to-beat”, but a
series of pit road penalties kept the 29-year old driver from
gaining his first ARCA victory. However, Clemons overcame the adversity and crossed the line
fifth, a career best.
“We’re
going back with the same intentions we had last year, prove
ourselves,” continued Clemons. “We did last year with very little sponsorship, and this
year we have next to nothing, but this team has the urge to get on
the track, so that’s what we are going to do.
I
just want to have a smooth and clean day. We’re not going to set the world on fire, I just want to
get back behind the wheel and adjust with the new SAFER barrier
walls, and see where we end up. If we can go back to Indiana knowing we had a solid test
under our belts, we’ve already started our 2005 racing season off
in a good way.”
At
this point, the Clemons Racing schedule is still unknown. The team
would like to compete in a minimum of ten events, but if sponsorship
could be obtained their schedule could actively increase and the
team has entertained the thoughts of running the remaining ARCA
schedule.
“I
know there are a lot of teams, drivers, and car owners that are
looking for funding. We
are a good team, I think we have proven in a very short time we have
what it takes to compete in the RE/MAX Series, but if we can get a
little backing behind us, the possibilities are endless.
The
team is still actively seeking sponsorship on their No. 41 Ford
Taurus for the second event of the 2005 season. Interested parties

The
PFG Lester 150 is the second of 23 events on the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX
Series schedule. Practice begins Friday, March 25th with
an extensive morning session planned. Qualifying is also on tap for
Friday afternoon with the race set to take the green flag Saturday
March 26th, 2005. The Speed Channel will air the event
live beginning at 12:30pm EST.
